It’s always tricky to know where to start and often it’s the case of getting a Sensei to show you the way. If you’re reading this you’re probably someone who has thought about studying Japanese before. Or maybe you tried for a while but then got stuck with all the Kanji or perhaps lost motivation. You may even be a Japanese speaker yourself but have a friend who said they were keen in learning.
If so, we’d recommend joining Explore Japanese – an online event held by Fran Wrigley and Elly Darrah on Tuesday 29th March and Wednesday 6th April. Both events are going to be in English and do not require any knowledge of Japanese. During the events, you’ll get the change to:
- Explore how Japanese sentences are formed
- Guess the meaning of Japanese words and written characters
- Write your name in Japanese
- Introduce yourself
- Find out more about Japanese culture
At the end of the session, there will also be a Q&A where you can find out more about what it’s like to study Japanese, to live in Japan or anything else that’s on your mind.
Learning Japanese with Fran and Elly
We thought it might be a good idea to give a quick introduction to Fran & Elly. We actually know Fran from our Nagoya days in Japan, where she stood out for her amazing Japanese skills. She’s been teaching Japanese lessons since she returned to the UK in 2015 and it’s amazing to see her school Step Up Japanese go from strength to strength. Here’s a link to our first post on Step Up Japanese if you’d like to read a little more on Fran.
Meanwhile Elly Darrah is an Edinburgh based teacher behind Ippo Ippo (which means one step at a time in Japanese). They previously lived in Osaka and near Kobe, and like Fran has a great Instagram page where they often post useful Japanese words.
Both Fran and Elly really live and breathe Japanese as you can probably tell from their social media feeds. They’re also great teachers as you can see from testimonials and will get you to the level of Japanese you want to be. All you have to do now is take that first step!
