About the Best Japanese Team: Experts in Japanese Food, Culture & Travel

Welcome to Best Japanese. I’m Babur, and together with the Best Japanese Team, we share our knowledge on Japanese food, culture and travel. Having grown up with Japanese heritage and spent 18 years living and working in Japan, I started this site to share my lifelong passion for the country. What began as a personal project has grown into a collaborative space for a team of writers and contributors who are just as dedicated to sharing their professional insights on Japanese food, culture, and travel as I am.

What we do

Are you trying to figure out which Japanese restaurant to visit in London tonight? Maybe you are looking for a supermarket that sells ingredients so you can make Japanese dishes at home? Perhaps you are searching for some Japan travel tips and if you should be including Hiroshima or Shirakawa-go in your upcoming Japan itinerary? For all of the above and more, we hope to provide the information you need. Last but not least, we want to showcase the new trends and innovations taking place in Japan. This means we do support local Japanese businesses or relatively off the beaten path locations. If you wish to collaborate with us, please don’t hestitate to get in touch.

Authentic Japanese food and recipes

Japanese cuisine is more popular than ever, and it’s wonderful to see it featured in restaurants or in social media recipes. However, we’ve noticed that “authentic” doesn’t always mean what you’ll actually find in Japan. We’ve seen ramen recipes using the wrong type of noodles to dishes that rely on Sriracha instead of traditional seasonings.

While we love seeing new twists and innovations, our goal is to show you what is genuinely authentic. We want to help you understand what to expect when visiting Japan or if you want to prepare a traditional meal at home.

Accurate perspectives on culture and lifestyle

Our second aim is to provide accurate information on Japanese culture and lifestyle so that people can get a better picture of Japanese attitudes, trends, technology, and the latest fashion items. Above all, we want to reduce the misconceptions of Japan as there is plenty of outdated thinking out there. A lot of news coverage on Japan focuses on the “weird” side of Japan. However, this often adds to a very skewed image of the “exotic” country some people assume Japan to be.

In addition, we wish to share our knowledge or learnings on Japanese culture by highlighting our favourite Japanese podcasts, blogs, and creators.

A Space for Our Community

Another goal for this site is to create a welcoming home for others of mixed Japanese heritage who, like me, are looking to explore, understand, or reconnect with their roots. While there are now many more resources and online sites and communities out there, if you are looking to understand more of your Japanese background, we hope this website will also be helpful. For those wanting to connect with others who share a similar cultural landspace, you are in the right place. Please get in touch if you would like to help build this space together or if you wish to join one of our events in London.
