Need to know where to stay while you’re in Nagoya? Perhaps you’re considering staying in the city for one or two nights while travelling across Japan? Nagoya certainly is centrally located on the way to Takayama, and perfect for stopping off on your journey back to Tokyo. Or maybe you’re visiting for the newly opened Ghibli Park and adding in some traditional Nagoya sightseeing? Whichever it is, we’re here to make your life easier for you, with our pick of the 15 best hotels in Nagoya. We’ve listed 5-star hotels for those who appreciate true luxury with rooms boasting sweeping scenic views, and more affordable 4-star hotels perfectly positioned to enjoy downtown Nagoya and its famous local cuisine. We’ve also included some unique hotels and honourable mention hotels in the list.
Where to stay in Nagoya?
Before we get to hotels in Nagoya, your first question might actually be which area is best to stay in? In Nagoya, there are two main areas where you’ll find the majority of hotels – the area around Nagoya Station and Sakae in the middle of the city.
While Sakae is downtown and closer to iconic sightseeing spots like Nagoya Castle, the Tokugawa Museum, and Ghibli Park, the Nagoya Station area will be better suited for convenience after a long journey, and if you’re only in the city for one or two nights. One thing we noticed after living in Nagoya for over a decade is just how much the Nagoya Station area has developed. Some of the most incredible architecture in the city like Nagoya Spiral Tower is only seven minutes walk away, while there are plenty of shopping and restaurant choices in the chic Dai Nagoya Building, JR Gate Tower and Midland Square. Also it’s extremely quick to get from Nagoya to Sakae by subway being only a five-minute ride on the Higashiyama line.
Having said that, if you’re in the city for longer and prefer a stroll back to the hotel after exploring the Osu Kannon shopping district or an evening out, then Sakae may be a better option for you.

TIP: In Japan, the floor of a building at ground level is called the 1st floor, while the 2nd floor in Japan would be the 1st floor in the U.K. If you’re not used to this, it can be confusing to begin with, but all you have to remember is that the 1st floor in Japan is the ground floor in the U.K. and most of Europe.
